Default Joiney Licencing QLD, Help Please.

Hello all

I am a radiographer and OH a time served joiner with loads of experience. We hope to be off to Queensland (not sure exactly where yet!) if/when visa okay'd.
I have read somewhere here that licencing for him is a must in order to get work. Could someone shed any light on this? Have been on BSA website but still not quite clear as to which route to follow.

Any help and advice would be very much welcome.
Thank you

Hi my hubby is a tiler and we used Master Builders to get his license (have a look at their website) We did go through a company called tradetrain first but they were not that good. For him, he needed basically all the info, ref, photos, qualification etc which we had from the tra approved then he had to sit a 2 day course. It took about 3 months all in. Good luck.

My OH does not need to have his skills recognised (Joiner) for our visa application as we are applying through myself. Does he need Vetasses test is this the licence? Or does he need to do something else in OZ? Then what about the TRA? What does he need to do in order trade in Queensland?
thanks Nicky

In order for your husband to trade as a joiner (self-employed) he will need to have his skills recognised first if he passes this he will receive Australian qualifications (AQF cert III). He will then have to attend a business management class (2 days) and once completed can put his papers in at the BSA for a licence to trade as a joiner check out the HIA or Master Builders websites. If he decides to work for a company as full time employee he will not need a licence as the contractor/owner holds the licence and your husband will be covered under this...

Aussiedreamz gave you an excellent reply, the main point was at the end. If your OH works for a company then he will not need a license, only needs a license if he is going to set up his own company.
