only reason I asked is because my hubby is a chef (assessed via TRA) and whilst we were gather info about him working in Aus I came across info about school cooks - basically there are a few jobs via local government but the private schools advertise in the press..... there are some jobs but not that many. I just did a search on www.careerone.com.au for school cook for anywhere in Aus & there were only 5 advertisments for school cooks.....

Schools in our area at least don't have the typical school meals like in England. They all take pack up and they have 'tuckshop' twice a week (I think some schools have it every day), which is where they can buy their lunch. They place their order and money in a brown paper bag and it is taken to the tuckshop where the ladies there get it all ready for lunchtime. Most of these ladies are parent volunteers but I am not sure if they all are or if there is one paid person. The lunch is then delivered back to the classroom and they eat in an undercover area outside, there is no dining hall. It took us some getting used to the system. I am not sure about lunchtime supervisors as my daughter has never mentioned it, I would have to ask her.

There might be a few state schools that actually do proper cooked lunches (special schools spring to mind) but most tuckshops only have stuff like pies, sausage rolls, sandwiches, rolls, burgers etc.
Large private schools - particularly those with boarders - will have a proper dining room and do the full lunch-thing. My son's school has one but all the catering is done by an outside company and the school don't employ the staff directly.
