Jobs in Perth
Hi there,
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Perth round about June 2008..I'm a recruitment consultant and have already been in touch with agencies who will easily find me work. My husband is a product/project manager and we really want to find him a job before moving out there. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to start? Are there specific jobsites for people in the UK who want to move?
Anyone with any other advice/tips would be mocy appreciated and we have only just started the thinking process and are a little daunted by it all!
Many Thanks

Are you looking to be sponsored for a visa by an employer? Probably the best website to start with would be www.immi.gov.au It will give you an idea of whether or not you even qualify for a visa.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply...I would get a visa from my employer, a 4 year visa which my husband would tag onto so he can work...we just need to find him a job!

It's pretty difficult to find an employer sponsor. Generally employers want someone who already has work rights here. Unless your husband has either an occupation in real demand or is very specialised it would be better to try to qualify for a visa first and look for a job once you have one.

1) I wouldnt think June would be the best time of year to arrive, for some making the move can be relatively tough times, im sure you've researched things but getting here for the start of winter doesnt seem ideal to me.
2) Perth Job market is booming, trying to secure a job from overseas with no visa about 8months before you can start isnt exactly attractive for employers.
Perth is all about now, having to wait 4 weeks for someone to start is considered hassle. Your best bet is to just get here on the employer sponsored visa you seem able to get relatively easily and then source work for your husband when you arrive (start contacting people about 2 weeks prior to arrival)

I notice you are in Clarkson. Could you advise is it ncie to live there, especially with location near the train station? If applicable, how about the quality of schools (primary & senior high) and do you have any recommendations in Clarkson?
Thanks.

We live about 6 blocks from the train station, but I drive into the city. It's only about 40 minutes drive and I kind of like the solitude of sitting in my car with the music VERY LOUD. The few times that I have taken the train it was ok. I'm from Toronto area, though, where the transit system is very crowded and old.
We love Clarkson. It's close to the ocean (5 miunutes to Mindarie marina, 10 to Quinn's Beach) has a nice little shopping centre, train station, close to Joondalup if you need anything you can't find here. And our kids love their schools. You will probably hear not so nice things about both Clarkson Primary and the High School, but we have not found any of the problems with bullying or drugs, etc. My children have made very nice friends here. There are programs at the High school for both special needs/learning problems and an academically gifted program as well as the regular stream. Great sport school with a soccer program, too.
When you get here, give me a shout and we'll show you around the place.
