Jobs New Farm or Broadbeach

If we do decide to give it another go..........Its 50/50...

As a nurse and a unskilled driver come getting anysort of work, where would you advise?

What is the labour market like in New Farm or Broadbeach?

Its just in the two areas, like for like rents are;

Broadbeach - $400.00 aweek;)

New Farm - $ 550.00 aweek:(

Also New Farm is very limited in availability. But is there more wrok in and around CBD?

Thanks for any help.

Can't speak for your two jobs in particular but in general there are much more work opportunities in Brisbane than the Gold Coast. New farm ( work near there) is inner city, trendy, young, personally wouldn't want to live there but we're over 40! Bbeach is the up & coming part of the Gold Coast, lots of posh restaurants, the casino and of course the beach (I live N end of the GC).

As one who commutes Hope Island to Bris I would not advise commuting from Bbeach to Bris, our commute is borderline too far, the extra 25/30km would be horrible, minimum 90 mins each way in heavy traffic or even more on crowded train.

People don't live in New Farm because the work in New Farm - I don't think there is much work there except in retail and food. It's a nice place to live and easy to commute to the CBD via the Citycat ferry.

Unskilled driver - work as a courier van driver perhaps, although most of them are contract and own their vans. Taxi driver - most are Indian these days! No idea how easy it would be to find a job.

Brisbane is fairly compact (CBD area) and has good public transport in the city area (and not too bad in the suburbs). I live in the Western Suburbs and could easily commute to most of the major Brisbane Hospitals in about 30-40 mins maximum. You don't need to live in the suburb that you have your job.

Employment is generally easier in Brisbane versus Gold Coast - but as a nurse I imagine you could potentially find employment in any hospital in all of Queensland - and I expect they need drivers everywhere.

I enjoy living in Brisbane and visiting the coast (Sunshine Coast better than Gold Coast for me) on the weekends/holidays. i find it's the best of both worlds and suits my particular lifestyle/wants/needs.

Best of luck.

I guessed there would be more work in and around CBD, i will be honest, i have never visited New Farm, drove through Kangaroo Point over the bridge, but have no idea what New Farm is like. We are both mid forties,do you think it will be too busy and noisy for two oldies?;) We chose New Farm mainly because of access to CBD, the two hospitals, the airport, we are used to living within walking distance of everything. So to be able to walk to CBD shopping Mall, to be able to walk to the Roma Street station, also hopefully plenty of $20 dollar an hour work, maybe casual construction, driving, leaflet handing out, just easier to make a buck. Whereas on the Gold Coast, it could be tougher?

Thanksfor the feed back.

Our choice of New Farm is locality to CBD, the two big hospitals really, would not look to work in New Farm. But if it is nice, well it ticks all boxes. I know as a nurse i will be fine, its my other half, we both need to work. But hopefully, the back packers find casual work around CBD, he might be fine?

Thanks for the help.:)

I would look in to temporary work, I did a working holiday and got in contact with a few recruitment companies and found work easy to get. In terms of the OH I am sure there will be agencies for that too, I would keep googling and see what comes up.

Brisbane is not that big of a city. I lived at Kangaroo Point (just down the road) for about 6 months and I used to do shifts at Bris Private, St Andrews and St Vincent's. There are quite a few hospitals on the outskirts of the cbd like the Mater, the PA, the Wesley (my memory ends there). New Farm is quite easy to get around from...bit exy though...unjustly so in my opinion!

Your boyfriend could just check out some of the agencies. We went through Healthcare Australia for nursing, they helped with the visa and sort of got us set up before we arrived! Then we could jump straight into agency when we got there after we got our pins. They've got an office in London - I'm using Nurse Jobs Australia now to try and find a perm job with sponsorship.

TBH I was thinking more Fortitude Valley when I described the busyness, although a walk from NF to Roma St (or even the city) would take a while! Much closer would be Brunswick St in the Valley. Agree with others that I'd prefer KP, short & pleasant ferry to the CBD.

New Farm is a lovely spot. You'd have to probably watch your movements after dark but that's like any inner city area in most cities of the world I think. I often take the kids there and there are heaps of families and over 40's living there as well as the young. I would live there with three kids.

We are heading to Kangaroo point, found a nice place to stay for a couple of weeks, while trying to find a permanent place to rent, and jobs. There seems to be places to rent, but furnished, well upwards of $600 aweek for a two bedroom furnished place, whereas in Broadbeach like for like £500 aweek. Just hope there is more unskilled work around CBD to compensate for the higher rents?

What recruitment agencies did you go through? I am moving to Southport, Australia in the beginning of July and will be looking for a job asap!
