It's good to see 'hundreds' of jobs listed. What is worth remembering is that many of those positions will be duplicated 4 or 5 times as employers will advertise vacancies with a number of agencies, not just one.
Saying there are hundreds of jobs in IT is like saying there are hundreds of jobs in medicine - e.g. there is a huge demand for nurses and a nurse probably wouldn't have too much of a problem finding work here. On the other hand, if your speciality is, say, podiatry then you may find it more difficult to get the position you want, in a location you want. So yes, there are hundreds of jobs in IT, but how many are actually relevant to any one IT professional is a totally different matter.
The IT market isn't 'dead' by any means, but it is 'tight', some areas more than others, and whilst some IT specialists may have the pick of the work, there are other IT professionals who are finding that their skills are not in as much demand as previously.
The company I work for couldn't get security specialists in quick enough, but our VB programmers are retraining themselves to keep themselves marketable.

At the company that I work for one of my work friends is an Oracle programmer.
He said that basically the market is much worse than it used to be for programmers due to the amount of people that have entered IT. I don't know if this is true or not because I have some software involvement but I am not a programmer/developer.
My friend also said that the lower grade programmers are being weeded out and getting retrenched where as the better ones were staying on. Also the better ones are getting good salaries where as the lowet grade one's salaries were more static.
I get the impression that the market for software people is much better in the UK at the moment where as Australia is similiar to California.

This is what is happening!
Try applying for some of these jobs and see if you get any responses. Bet you don't many from them!
Most of the jobs are just advertised by agencies to get your CV and when you follow-up on it they'll tell you that the position has either gone or the client has changed their mind or some other really poor excuse.
Jobs that are advertised directly by companies may get a result, but you'll be one 100's applying.
The fact that DIMA have now removed most of the IT professions from the MODL and are talking about restricting the 457 visa for IT professionals gives you the best indication of what is happening.
