I'm in Alice Springs. If you arrive in town at 8.00 a.m. you could have 3 jobs by lunchtime if you so desire. There is so much work here and the pay isn't bad. I was in Qld earlier this month and was surprised at how poorly paid office work is compared to here.

I know everyone will bag AS but have to tell you if you take the social issues out of it, we have a fantastic quality of life. Takes 5 minutes to get anywhere, plenty of work and the social life is as busy as you want it to be. Must be the friendliest people in Australia in this place.
Thanx Vicky, didnt realise you were way out there, werent you going to be moving to Sunshine Coast? well thats what I thought I remembered from some of your last posts .

But then again, maybe my memory is cr@p .

No Sunshine Coast was on our list. I was actually in Brisbane/Sunshine Coast area earlier this month looking at the area and for property. Think we will stay in AS for now as we have family here and as my husband is away most of the time it provides a bit of company. However might buy a property in Coolum or Brisbane to rent for now with the view we will move there in a couple of years. I really liked Brisbane so could definitely see myself becoming a banana bender in the future.

Don't put too much faith in what the govt. website tells you is available job wise. There doesn't seem to be that many jobs for electronic bods in Australia. My husband is a telecomms engineer specialising in mobile phones and we rarely find a job that he would be able to get and he has all the skills and experience one could want. For that reason he is continuing to work for his US-based employer.

Hi Vicki,
He wouldnt happen to work for Motorola would he ??? the reason I ask is that I used to work for them and was offered a job with them in Sydney (Service Manager) but wanted to come to perth where they only have software division. PM me if he wants more info on jobs available with MOT and I can put him in touch with the necessary folk.

Hi Mairi&Chris,

To start with anything will do, as we've decided to be flexible initially (or to put it simply we cannot afford to be choosy) . Plan to go to Melbourne, Office Administration & Ref.& A/C Tech.

Sarah
Sorry cant help with Melbourne, but I know in perth if you are not fussy there are lots of jobs going for the 40+ age group. Chris is 44 and had a quick look at the market (before deciding to take a 3 month holiday) and it would appear to be no problem for him to get a job.
