Hi!
If you go to www.immi.gov.au you can have a look at the MODL list, this tells you the occupations which are currently in demand. By the way Rich, how do you know which particular fields of fridge and Air con are needed? my hubby is a fridgy and I'm curious to know!
Leigh.

down under has gone big style for ammonia (a lot of the winerys use it..also good industrial eng's are worth their weight in gold ANYWHERE in the world
same goes for big 'chiller' guy's..
the average run of the mill a/c fridgie will always get work fairly easy out in au provided you are skilled and get your electrical trades ticket..queensland is manic for good guys all the time..
i suggest he goes on a few fridge mechanic sites like-
http://www.refrigeration-engineer.com/chat/index.php?s=
(there is a thread running there about stuart from blackpool off to sydney...)
or alt.hvac
there are at least 2 au guy's oztech (paul -newcastle nsw) and darryn -perth
plus ian childs who is a consultant in sydney
and make contact with guys out there already then he will get the idea of jobs wages etc
cheers

Just incase you are looking to go down the path of some of these advertisements that promise you become a tradesmen in 1 week or 1 month.
Plumber apprenticeships ae between 3 & 5 Years. On top of that you need the relevant work experience of 3 years after you have completed your apprenticeship.
I do laugh when I see these have a weeks crash course on becoming an Electrician or Plumber.
The whole thing is a scam. There is no accreditation with these schemes.
Anybody who thinks they are able to work on Electrical Switchgear or Water systems are likely to be heading for problems.
If you are looking for the future then trades, the medical profession doctors, nurses, infact anything that will expand the infrastructure will almost certainly always be in demand.
Cheers

hi steve
i have been in this game since '83 started a company back in '87 left in '2000 as i move away from there..
did some freelance work for a few companies and now I'm the london manager for macwhirters
we have our visa completed and our passports stamped. we will be validating in oct time....but ..and it's a big but.. it's now very very unlikely we will ever go..
it took me 4 months to get the info up together fto the tra.
the tra took 2 weeks to come through as passed.
the application went in may03 time and we got approval in june.
if you want help on anything let me know..esp if you haven't put in your tra yet..it'd not as easy as it should be and there are a few things that will really make a difference..
cheers

Hi Richard,
I've already sent in my TRA, it's been in a couple of weeks now and I'm expecting quite a wait - 8 weeks apparently. It's taken us an age to get everything together, our agent had to be a specialist in recognition of prior learning. Also we've had a chap in Perth sorting out the TRA references, i.e he wrote it out, mailed to us and I got my boss to sign it. Hope they've done a good job as it sounds like it can be tricky to get it right. You managed to get your main app through really quickly by the sounds of it! Did you front end load your app with meds and police checks? Did you use an agent and did they / were you advised to do so?
Things are a bit tight for us and we're a bit cheesed off really. My birthday is in December and so I need to have my main app in by that date as I turn 35 and will lose points if it's received after. Our agent has assured us it will be in by then, but then again, he assured us that our TRA would have been in and well on it's way to coming back by now. Everything seems to take way more time than planned. We've got the main app forms and are filling them in at the moment, to be sent onto the agent who will deal with the rest of it for us, so at least we feel like we're doing something while we wait for the TRA to come back. Do you think that being on the MODL list made any difference to how quickly you got yours back?
Thanks for your help Richard,
Cheers mate, Steve.
