job in retail

Can anyone help?
We are hoping to get to brisbane in the new year, has anyone applied for a job in the retail trade.
At the moment I am a retail supervisor and when we get to brisbane I want a job in retail . I was just wondering if anyone knows if you have to take any special tests or have any qualifications to get just a general shop work job.

Re: job in retail

For just general shop work they focus more on experience than qualifications at most places. However some companies like you to have a TAFE retail certificate (there are certificate I, II etc) or even a Commerce degree focusing on Retail if you want a supervisory or management role. Many companies put you through their own training process before placing you into supervisory roles. Check:

www.woolworths.com.au (head company of BigW, Woolworths etc)
www.colesmyer.com.au (head company for Myer, Coles, Target, Kmart etc)

they list their preferred qualifications and experience on their site as well as positions available.

www.frontlineretail.com.au is a retail recruitment agency and places a lot of ads on www.seek.com.au

A great idea is also to go store to store in your area and ask for an application form or drop off a resume, most places keep them on file in case a position comes up later.

Don't know if this is of interest to you (shows deductions for any courses you may need to take as a tax benefit for retail) :)

I know the title is 'shop assistants' but if you read it, it applies to all retail outlet employees
