Default Job Opportunities.....

Hi

I’m after any information that might benefit me as regards to, initially working in Australia, I appreciate the 457 is to be abolished in match, only to be replaced by 2 new visas, I’m interested, initially working within the oil & gas (on/offshore) construction or mining sectors, preferably on a long roster, fifo, with the view to eventually relocate, any tips, thoughts, or comments as regards to gaining sponsorship or application of a visa on an individual status, or any companies that might still offer sponsorship for overseas workers....would be gratefully appreciated

Your first step is to see if your skill is on the lists of eligible occupations www.immi.gov.au If it is then you can either apply for a skilled visa (if you can pass the skills assessment and get enough points - at 49 that may be impossible) or see if you can find a sponsor for a temporary visa.

Your first stop though should be www.immi.gov.au which is the Australian Government's immigration and citizenshop site.

The age limit for skilled visas is 45 so that ship has sailed.

OP all you can do is look at the main job sites such as seek.com.au and apply for jobs. But you should be aware that it would only ever be a temporary visa. Also, it is very competitive for jobs in the offshore area now as many people were laid off in the last few years and Australia certainly has its fair share of ageism. I am a year or two younger and experienced it. Add in that 457 / the 457 replacements are now a lot more expensive and are taking many months to process it isn't as attractive to employers any more.
