Re: job offer for darwin
Me and my hubby - (then BF) spent 4 months in Darwin 10 years ago. I absolutely loved it, but our circumstances were very different then and from what I gather the place has changed quite a bit since then.
We are also considering NT sponsorship, because despite the fact that we were younger and had no kids, we both fell in love with the NT. Darwin is a lot smaller than the other Oz cities, it felt more like a town than a city. It felt like I knew everyone, and if I didn't, then I soon would! The NT is STUNNING. We travelled all over Oz, and never saw anything so beautiful. We stayed during the 'dry' season, and left just before the 'wet'. We then realised that we really missed the place, so went back there at the end of the 'wet', thus avoiding the worst of the weather. I think that our view of Darwin is through rose coloured glasses, and wonder if it was as fantastic as I remember. It is different to the rest of Oz, VERY isolated, but far more interesting. The people are lovely. I think it is now quite expensive, but some research would answer that question. It was very diverse in terms of race and cultures, which made it feel more like home than any of the other cities. But just like everywhere else in Oz, you have to approach it with an open mind and a good sense of humour! Good luck Nic |
Re: job offer for darwin
I live in Darwin with my family, we absolutely love it.
There is lots of work here, and also work at thre mine sites - about 200km. There is work starting soon on a Gas Processing plant too, and new housing suburbs are being developed. The weather is great - apart from 2-3 months (Sep-Nov) when it is very hot and humid. The dry season can get a bit cold (17 Degrees at night!) but mostly it is in the 32-34 degree range. Plenty of shops here too - you can spend a good 3 hours in the big shopping centre and not see the same shop twice. Schools are pretty good - good mix of puiblic and private schools. Overall, very nice place to live and work. |
