UP SKILL UP SKILl UP SKIll UP SKill UP Skill UP skill Up skill up skill

I can't say this enough comrades!!!

Going anywhere these days, there is no guarantee of netting the job of choice.
Complacency in your vocation of choice will wither you eventually in the future job market.
Now this is easier said than done, I am a lazy begger at the best of times, but there is a slight point to what I am saying -
- Diversify
- you are already there with the job you previously held, so try adding to that before you go somewhere else(or when you get there)

You were able to do it before you got a job in your own Country, so now maybe don't ya think, you might need to add a little more pepper or salt to your CV for your job prospects in your new Country of choice i.e OZland.

I left an engineering job, would love to work in WA engineering(but I can't)
But what am I going to do when I get there - UP SKILL/DIVERSIFY

Then I will try to net my job of choice when I get back home( or if WA accepts me!!!)

Ok everyone, this is an update from someone who works deep within the Gorgon project. Nothing I will say is confidential or is not already in the market place for all to see. The West Australian seems to know a lot anyway!

Gorgon WILL be approved by the various joint venture partners Chevron, Shell and ExxonMobil in mid September. The construction phase will then begin. All design work is practically complete although subject to rework during the life. Many large contracts have been let and this should be the focus of getting work. The EPCM, KJVG (Clough, Hatch, KBR) is well staffed up but it may need specialised staff that are willing to work on the Island, FIFO. Look at Thiess, Decmil, Ertech, Compass. They are have won large contracts and will have posted jobs on their sites. Once Woodside and Chevron Wheatstone get going there will be a lot of work over the next 5 years.

As I said nothing here is anything that you could not already have got searching the Net. Good luck!

I have been here, in Perth a year now and worked for the first 4 months in mining. After Christmas they let 20 of us go. I had been out of work five months.
Then luckily got a job in Oil & Gas, yesterday they have told all contractors to leave so I'm back at square one. I was hoping they were going to make me permanent. Its a very tuff market for a mechanical draftsman and these projects are my only hope.

Can any one please advise or PM to help.
Sorry to hear that. In addition to the post from movin'on, all you can do is continue knocking on the doors of EPCMs like clough, kbr, worleyparsons, hatch, pyory, etc. Try and contact a few agencies (although no one seems to like them on BE) and see if they have any positions on the books. It's a touch market for everyone at the moment but there are positions still out there.

Why can't you do engineering in WA? Of course it depends on what you specialize in but there is work out there.
