Default IT job market in Brisbane/ Gold Coast areas

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows what the IT job market in Brisbane/ Gold Coast areas are like. I am going to Brisbane in March for three weeks for our recce and am hoping to do some scouting for work at the same time. I should have my PR visa by then (fingers crossed).

I would love to think that being a fairly large city Brisbane has a buoyant IT market and that good quality employment wouldn't be too hard to find. :scared: :confused

Coming from an IT background I can honestly say that there are jobs out there on the Gold Coast, because I have been looking for myself. HAve you checked out www.seek.com.au?

Yes i have had a look, however it seems that until you actualy have that visa grant you cant even apply. This is realy frustrating

Work in IT myself, in NSW, so can't really comment on Qld, but I can say that Oz is no different from the UK in that its sending as many jobs as possible, as fast as possible, to India.

I've just started work at an IT company in Brissy. There are several of the big names have a big presence, Oracle, IBM, Mincom HQ alongside some of the big financials which have their own IT resource. Depends what you do, coding/PM/helpdesk. Not sure about the GC - not as much as Brissy I suspect.

I'm in It in Brisbane and there does seem to be quite a lot of work around, in my particular field anyway.

The gold coast is a bit tougher. I was told that the only large employer there for IT was the council.

Well, yes, but look at it from the employers point of view. If you aren't even in Brisbane and you haven't got the visa, then why on earth would they consider you for a job, unless it's a specialist position which they can't fill locally? I think it's unrealistic to expect otherwise.

Good luck!
