Joanne Lees- is it just me?
...or did anyone else, when reading the news about her staying in Oz for a while, to write a book, think "well what visa is she on? Too old at 32 for a backpackers. She has no job so can't be sponsored .Does not seem to be here on PR...hmmm what visa applies to her circumstances".
There again I went throught the same process when I heard that 52 year old Leo Sayer came to Oz- what visa category did he arrive on?
maybe I am just too fixated by visas?

I looked it up (sad!) and can't see that it applies to either person:
Individuals with an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement, and still prominent in a profession, the arts, sport, or research and academia may apply to migrate or stay permanently in Australia
def, was not true of Leo Sayer 2 years ago! Or do I misjudge him?

The fact they are well known and have money is enough.

If she's not being paid to write it then it's probably ok. Anyone can write a book if they want too.

It's easy to forget, now I'm a citizen, just how harsh DIMIA can be.

We are hypothesising about the production of 'intellectual property' here. Tricky stuff.
