There is also Regional Express which runs small planes to regional airports. www.rex.com.au
The tasman route is getting busier with freedom air and emirates now plying the route.
And there is a direct flight from Sydney to Queenstown. I heard the announcement at the airport.

We used Virgin Blue for all but one of numerous internal flights last year and found them v helpful, all times we didn't pay for Oliver as was under 3 (their policy is under 3's are free), and each time they blocked him off a seat for free at the check in desk, also the stewardess did face painting on him and gave out toys to keep him amused.
Quantas on other hand, unhelpful, had to pay for his seat, generally basic unsmilley service........
hope that helps

Thanks peeps for the info. Will try Virgin Blue when we fly from Gold Coast to Mel. We have a mate who lives in Hobart and he said as we are coming to Mel we must visit him. He said you can travel by boat - is it a long journey???

Hi Debsy
We flew VB from Brissie to Sydney.
Cant fault it really it was well priced and the flights were pretty good both ways.
No frills on board but it gets you their and doesnt break the bank.
