Here's a site funded by the great UK taxpayer http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?...=1007029390572
and here's some advice for HK
HEALTH
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
Hong Kong was affected by SARS from March to June 2003. However, you should be aware of the symptoms and seek medical advice should you develop them.
The symptoms of SARS are: high fever (more than 38C) and one or more respiratory symptoms including cough, shortness of breath, and/or difficulty in breathing. If any traveller experiences this combination of symptoms while in a SARS affected area or within 10 days of being in an affected area, they should seek medical attention and ensure that information about their recent travel is passed on to health care staff. Any traveller who develops these symptoms should not undertake any kind of further travel until they have recovered. People at most risk appear to be those who have been in close contact with an affected person, such as close family members and health care workers caring for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome patients.
Passengers transiting Hong Kong, as well as those arriving and departing, may experience delays due to continuing precautionary medical screening by the authorities. Transiting passengers should also consult our travel advice information for the latest situation in the country of their destination.
British citizens resident or travelling in the affected areas should closely monitor the following websites for the latest information on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
http://www.who.int/csr/sars/en/
http://www.doh.gov.uk/sars
http://www.phls.co.uk/topics_az/SARS/menu.htm
Health Insurance
The UK and Hong Kong Reciprocal Health Care Arrangement terminated on 30 June 1997. You need to purchase adequate health insurance before travelling to Hong Kong. Please note that the cost of medical care in Hong Kong is high.
Dengue Fever
Every year several cases of dengue fever are reported in Hong Kong . The numbers are small in comparison to the total population and outbreaks have been localised. But visitors are recommended to take precautions against mosquito bites.

I lived in HK a while for work. If it was me (and it's not!), I'd not worry about catching anything there that you could'nt catch in the UK. Ie make sure Tetanus is up to date and you should be fine. HK is a first world city, you just don't want to go round any chicken farms or get bitten by a dog.

Thankyou to the Pleasance family for all that info-we're very grateful. Not looking for definitive medical advice just other peoples experiences that might help us avoid unecessary time spent in doctors waiting room so thanks again.Mrs.neal

There's advice on Cathay's web site. In short, all you need to do is stay cool and arrive in HK with your temperature below 38C.
