'All they have over there is the thick Ribena cordial and she likes Robinson’s apple and blackcurrant. I remember going round the shops and thinking, what are we going to do?’

Ah, The Daily Mail and its wonderful stories!

Surprised that the "chocolate was different" was not also quoted as a reason not to stay......

And the Weet(a)bix...

Amazes me how people can move without knowing hardly anything about where they are going to, then pick on the slightest things for being different, before moving back after a short time. How can anyone give it a go in that space of time (and with that attitude)?

Even I, not renowned for being Australia's biggest fan, can see the Daily Mail has excelled itself with this article......

Muppets.

The only negative aspect is they took up a visa that someone with two braincells to rub together could have used.

I think the comments from the readers at the end tell all that can be said about the decision to go in the first place and the decision to return - pathetic, impulsive, lack of research, inability/unwillingness to adapt, should have tried to stick it out for longer etc. I can just see the headline if it was in Rupert's Sun - Hull to Hell and back!

However, there was a couple reported in the media about a decade ago who decided to migrate to Victoria. They got off the plane at Tulla, got into a taxi and before they got to the city centre they had instructed the driver to take them back to Tulla and they returned to the UK. I'm not sure if it's in the Guinness Book of World Records but it has to be the shortest migration on record.

I'm not surprised they thought it was expensive, looking at the size of them,it would have taken a lot to feed them, poor kid looks like she'll be the same size soon

Should have read down to the bottom - she would come back to Australia - to Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, just not Adelaide - so not a wasted visa

Oh dear - someone's got to be making this up

Oh and the sting in the tail at the end:

"But despite their disastrous first attempt at settling in Australia, Mrs Goodfellow admits she could be tempted to try it again in the future.

She revealed: ‘I would go back to Australia, to Perth or Sydney or Melbourne, but not to Adelaide."

Wait until she finds out that they mightn't have daughter's favourite drink at the Tesco price in Perth, Sydney or Melbourne!

Kingston upon Hull is so much better?

(I believe it has the highest % of council house tenants in the whole of Europe - just pointing out an interesting fact about Hull).

And they swap their houses on Facebook too:
