I have not seen it before so thought I would have a read - what doom and gloom! Makes me remember all the reasons we wanted to come to oz. The schools in uk are in crisis, immigration problems, more speed cameras being put on motorways, political correctness gone mad (one village carnival which has been held for a century has now stopped because someone last year launched a claim for compensation), policemen getting murdered, old ladies being mugged, innocent people being locked up for protecting their own property whilst the villains get off.........
The list goes on and on...,
I know stuff does happen in oz but not to the extent in the uk. In an article by Frederick Forsyth he states that Britain (in Europe) is a finished country and he shall advise his sons to leave for Australia! My experience so far is that people are more content and happier over here and its where I would like my children to grow up...
Now I've got that off my chest I will put the paper in the bin and not buy it again!!

Its not doom and gloom in OZ.
Crime in OZ falls to record lows because of record low unemployment and booming economy.

I swear that in OZ you will be robbed every single day, if not by some low life scum then from the low life politician upping taxes and finding more things to tax.

Yes we are very happy we made the move. Have 2 kids - 3 and 6. The eldest settling well into school. There is so much to do here that doesn't cost a fortune. Loads of great parks to take the kids to. A family ticket to the zoo only $50. The coast 30 mins away. If ever it was a nice day in the uk we would be stuck for places to go, invariably would just be in the back garden! I'm not especially sporty but do love the outdoors, walking etc. Just been down the great ocean road on hols which was excellent - would highly recommend it. Saw kangaroos, koalas, parrots, cockatoos! Also the 12 apostles is well worth a visit. When are you planning to move?

Thanks for sharing that with us - I think. Now get out there and move on
Let's face it, good news just doesn't sell papers and never will.
The British papers at the moment are full of crap stories because either the owner is tory and wants to show labour in a bad light or vise versa.
I don't read them anymore except Sunday Times and that is mainly for all the other sections. Watch channel 4 news cos Jon Snow makes me laugh. Read all other news from various sites on the web.

Re: Its all doom and gloom
Hi There,
Thanks for getting back to me, unfortunately we are not leaving here till the 16th of January, only because when we did tell the families it did not go so well and we thought we would not get a responseon the visa till the end of July and when we got it in April we decided it would not be fare to then say we are going earlier than anticipated and besides, it gives us more time to save money, we have sold our house and move out in July into mum and dads (aagghh!!) but better than spending a fortune in rent!.
Cannot wait to go, I just wish I was there, we are going to melbourne too. Lived there for 7 months a few years ago and loved it, I am sure some things have changed a lot but we still want to try.
How did you decide on a suburb are you near the city, I suppose it will depend on where we get work, are you renting?
Nice talking to you!
Gillian
