Investors in the UK can you help?
Hi,
My daughters first birthday is coming up and I have asked family to buy some shares for her I have picked my companies etc. I was wondering, if they can buy them in her name ? As she lives over here ? and any other info you may have I would appreciate. They are being bought in the UK for UK companies/international.
Thanks in advance
Carrianne

Ever thought about premium bonds, easy to set up plus holders can view winnings (if any) online.
Downside is absolutely no interest whatsoever............ever!

Nice Guy - I like your thinking. I know that no interest can seem like a bit of a downer, but if there are a reasonable amount of premium bonds invested over an 18 year period (of course more can be added each year as she grows up) the chances of winning something becomes higher.
We invested in some before buying a house, stored our deposit in premium bonds, and even though we only had them for a few months I think we won at least 50 quid each. It's something and there is always the added bonus that their value can't go down (as with stocks and shares ISA etc.)

We have some bonds in the UK and we usually win anything between 50 - 150 per month, the most months without a win = 3 months. This month it's 50.
The winnings can be more than the interest gained in a Woolwich Golden Egg account or some such trite named account and on balance the winnings nearly equate to the interest lost......................until the big one!

Hi
Thank you for the advice everyone. I bought premium bonds for my neice when she was born.
What I may do then is put the money together and buy a job lot on a internet website. I had a good one recommended to me here.
Thanks

Have a look on http://www.moneysavingexpert.com. There's an article there about cheap online share dealing.

Thank you and what a brilliant website. I noted the bank charges page, hope that could happen here too. bank charges are much worse in Australia you get charged for putting your money in and account here.
