Default Interview wear - Perth

Hi, Advice please?

In the UK I would wear a suit but don't want to come across as an uptight pom.

Should I go with smart or more smart casual? The company is in rail engineering.

Thanks

Can you tell us the type of job? Admin, marketing, OH&S, engineer, etc? Would it be office-based or out in the field?

Go and stand outside the front door at either starting or leaving time and see what the majority of the staff wear. Though I must say that even here in Brisbane the accountants seem to wear suits and ties regardless of the weather.

Why would wearing a suit mark you out as an 'uptight pom'?

Don't you read forums on the internet?

Everyone knows that all australians go to work in shorts, T shirts and thongs.

When my husband was in banking in Brisbane, the guys usually took their tie to work in summer and only put it on for important meetings and appointments.

For the OP, you need to wear a suit for interview, male or female. If you're female, also wear enclosed shoes, not sandals.

Interview in Perth you say? This is what you're after.

Is this the first of many cultural references I will fail to understand?

I would always go with beige for camouflage

It's a reference that only those who grew up in Perth would understand I think. Black DB's with a ripple sole were (and I think may still be) the only shoe of choice of Perth's true bogan community.
