Interstate Removal Costs
Anyone moved from sydney to sunshine coast recently? (or somewhere near in SE QLD?)
Trying to get an idea of moving our things up there if we head to syd first (as easier to get work in sydney straight away but have to weigh up costs of then moving on later.)
We'd be taking 20' container to oz so would be same amount of stuff to ship north.
Is a lorry the only option or is train freight possible?
Cheers,

Re: Interstate Removal Costs
thanks MM but we'll prob live in Sydney for around 9-12 months so will unpack for rental house.
Does our stuff stay in same container then and be delivered to our house as I remember reading that AQIS unpack container and contenets are then delivered by truck??
That made me worried about things going missing or getting broken when unpacking container. Be muc happy for same container to arrive on back of truck with few things positioned near doors so easy for quarantine to inspect without pulling verything out!
At least if we unpack it in Oz and break something then we only have ourselves to blame!

Re: Interstate Removal Costs
We did it the other way - North Brisbane (just south of Sunshine Coast area) to Blue Mountains (west of Sydney). It was being paid for by Himself's employer who had two approved removal firms, which we had to use for quotes - Grace and Kent.
Both were expensive (we thought) - Kent had a much cheaper quote but their insurance was a higher percentage of the value, so both prices worked out about the same at around $7000 (it might even have been higher, but that figure sticks in my mind)
Obviously, if you're not tied to one of two companies, you can shop around and get a much better deal.
The goods were packed up on a Monday and Tuesday, freighted to NSW via train and delivered on the Friday. We went with Kent and they were excellent - and the quote included a full pack/unpack service.
We did have an awful lot of stuff though! Its amazing how much we've accumulated in the 2 years we've been here.

Slightly different (as in smaller) but while we're on the interstate subject, does anyone have a recommendation for shipping approx a dozen boxes Brisbane to Melbourne?

Re: Interstate Removal Costs
The containers are unloaded to be inspected, but often the stuff is either re-loaded, or loaded into a fresh container, for delivery. So some people will get their stuff in container, some in a truck

Re: Interstate Removal Costs
so if I put all the bikes, tools, garden furniture etc etc by the doors to help AQIS they are less likely to unpack the whole container???

Re: Interstate Removal Costs
As far as I know they have to unpack everything from the container, they then decide which boxes to open/itmes to inspect, so no, that plan wouldn't work, sorry

Overseas containers incur a Durmurage Fee if they are not returned to there owners by a set time, so companys get them emptied and returned as quickly as possible....................MM
