Hi Expats,

We recently moved from SA to Vic and need to reregister the car ( and licenses etc.)

I have been reading on TransportSA and VicRoads and the information is there but its not obvious. Has anyone done an interstate move and reregistered the car that can do a simple step by step guide??

Thanks for that, I had read the webpages tho.

I was looking for pratical experience of how it actually works. Things like do cars require inspection, if so which ones, how do you claim your refund, what charges ended up being payable how did you claim you refund etc..

I used myself a very full car and an early start. Adelaide to Melbourne is bit different than brizy to perth tho. We used a bunch of local removers for the rest of the household stuff, they specialised in melbourne Adelaide moves.

You won't know if the car needs an inspection until you speak to Vicroads as they decide if it needs an inspection or not. I just got sent a cheque in the mail of the unused portion of the rego, from memory it took about 2 weeks after I had been into Vicroads and given them the plates.

We just moved interstate from SA to WA. When I went to get my driving license changed, I asked what I had to do to get the car registered and the nice people at the centre gave me all the info I needed. Just go to your nearest licensing centre and they will be happy to tell you what you need to do.
