International Driving Permit
Hello peeps,
We are flying out to Brisbane on the 31st October, whilst we both have UK photographic licenses, will an IDP allow us to drive for a year in Queensland without taking our theory test ?
Or as PR do we have to take the test within 3 months anyway.
Just wondering if its worth purchasing the IDP or not ??

Im not sure!!!
when we were out there 3 years ago on our working holiday visa we used our uk driving licence. I think i read that you need to take a test in australia within 3 months if you were living there more permanently??

If you are residing you will need to convert within 3 months. Also you will not be able to get comprehensive car insurance if you do not have an Australian licence. I was told when I went to the UK that IDP's are not really worth the paper they are written on to the local police.

Having a UK or European licence does not stop you from getting comprehensive insurance, but it does mean that your excess is higher than someone holding an Australian licence.

Nah, I wouldnt bother with an IDP.
The theory test is fairly easy/straighforward if you get the book.
