Taken in isolation it may indeed look like positive news.
The same paper also carries a front page story in it's IT section declaring 11,000 IT jobs to be cut as they are outsourced overseas.
So its all swings and roundabouts...a bit like the housing market

The number of 457 temporary, long-stay business visas granted to ICT-skilled applicants also appears to be rising
Agree with Richs regards the job loss due to going off shore and the swings and roundabouts situation. From my own direct experience I know for a fact that in the US and to alesser extent the UK alot of companies are rethinking their stratagy regards going off shore in regard to customer services. The number of IT jobs lost due to this industry going to Asia has been huge. But as a result of customer complaints and a huge staff attrition level in Asia the whole idea is being rethought-and some are slowly returning to their original locations(to some extent due to new incentives being offered by areas biggest hit by the original losses)
While australia is certainly suffering from this I would not at all be surprised to see a swing around in a couple of years
btw- the staff attrition in some asian centres is running at 40% compared to 12 -14% last year.
