interest on Austrlian deposits
is interest paid gross, and then you declare it on your tax form?
or are there standard deductions on it?

Interest is paid gross on all bank deposits and you declare it on your tax return at end of year. Can leave you liable for big tax bill if you rent long term with cash in bank.
