Insuring a Diamond Ring
Right, I know this (or similar questions) has been asked before, but I still haven't found a satisfactory solution.....
I need to get my missus' diamond ring insured for the trip to Oz until such time as we arrange contents insurance after arrival in Sydney. Now this ring is worth a fair old bit of money; substantially more than we can get as a single item limit on all the one-way travel policies.... I have spoken to John Wasons (mentioned a few times on the forum), and while they will insure it "all risks" worldwide, they will only do this if it constitutes part of an overall contents policy, and that ain't cheap. Basically, I was wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this problem with a valuable single item? Is there a specialist insurer who would be prepared to cover it short term? Or even for a year? Only one I have found so far is Goldsmiths who will cover for a minimum of 3 years at the princely sum of £1050 :eek: Even then, because it wasn't purchased there and is quite old, they are not sure if they will cover it all! Hence the dilemma. Any advice would be very gratefully received. Thanks! |

I didn't cover mine during transit [so not sure if they do this?]however as soon as we landed I insured mine with NRMA insurance. You can insure your ring at the same time you obtain house insurance. Any jewellery items worth over $5,000 are insured seperatly [you pay extra on your premium]. All NMRA require is a certificate of proof of purchase and an evaluation [to demonstrate the item is worth over $5,000].
