I hope someone can help here. I have just received some inheritance from the uk. it is now in my parents account whilst I work out what to do with it.
I have been in Australia 10 years but I am reluctant to transfer due to exchange rates.
So how can I open a uk account or would someone like HSBC let me open a international one.
Any answers appreciated.

You could open a Sterling account in Australia.

Just before we left the Uk my wife opened a HSBC account, for future holidays we were told you can't open a Uk account from Australia whilst being an Australian resident, something to do with money laundering. Sound's about right but don't quote me.

Not strictly true. ING would not let me keep my account in the UK but Lloyds and HSBC have no issues. Both send my statements to Oz

I was only stating what the bank told us, Opening up a Uk bank account whilst living and being an Australian resident is completly different to keeping a Uk bank account after moving here, I also have Uk bank account statements sent to Oz

I recently opened a HSBC UK account.....all done via Australia.

Very easy to do.

Never said it couldn't be done just quoted what HSBC in the Uk told us.
