Inground water tanks - anyone done one
Hi all - can anyone share their thoughts (and costs) on inground water tanks. We're planning to go that route but not sure whether we're being given bull or the truth about the labour and installation costs. We're planning on getting a 22,500 litre concrete tank. We know the company who makes will supply our builder for $3500. But the builder wants $17,000 from us - are we being ripped off, or is $13,500 reasonable for labour and installation costs (digging hole, connections etc)? tks as always

don't know the answer but will watch with interest as we are just about to go down this route with our house build.

We are also getting inground concrete water tanks as part of our house build. (30,000 litres I think but then we do have 1.5 acres to water) Whereabouts are you? If in Melbourne I can put you in touch with someone to do the work.

No not in poor old parched Melbourne, but on the Sunshine Coast, a place called Peregian not far from Noosa. We get buckets of rain, but I think we'll face restrictions in the not too distant future once our dam has to be shared with our less fortunate fellow Queenslanders further south. Hence I'm taking preventative measures so that I can still have some kind of functioning garden and don't feel too guilty when I flush the loo. Any idea on what you're paying for the fitting of the tank?

It's being built as part of the foundations of our house so no I don't know yet.... one thing I have learned is that 2 x 15000 litre tanks will be cheaper to build than 1 x 30,000 litre.

Any reason you need an inground concrete tank? If you want something that will last, have you considered stainless steel above ground tanks? The cost of a 5,000gallon/22,500 litre tank is about $4000 but the install will be much cheaper ($1-2k). It will still last much longer than all the poly tanks. Just a thought.
