If you are looking to buy in an affordable area that will go up in value then Merriwa would be a good move. We have a house there and have no problems at all, the neighbours are friendly and it's not noisy. It will soon be totally engulfed by the Butler estate and it is well located to all amenities.

Re: Info on Merriwa Please
I live in Butler, and we can hear the hoons doing burnouts from that direction.
We sometimes shop at the Dewsons in Merriwa (now IGA). Sometimes it seems to be full of fat bitches pushing trolleys loaded with coca-cola, crisps, and cigarettes, while swearing at their kids as they walk bear-footed across the oil-smeared, glass-strewn car park. The IGA in Quinns aint much better.
There was a kid who trod on a needle playing in a park in Merriwa a little while ago. Some guys living near us used to live in Merriwa. Said it had a high percentage of people who make a lifestyle out of not working and drinking their benefit cheques.
Sorry to be negative, but these are the impressions I have gained after living nearby for more than two years. Guess I'm a snob too.

The burnouts are in Butler at the bottom of Bradman or Brasted whatever its called, by Irene McCormick - have you seen the donuts on the road? Who is to know where the hoons come from.
Unfortunately the needle incidents dont just happen in places like Merriwa, there was an article in the newspaper about one found in the park at Illuka.
Look I am not saying Merriwa is a perfect suburb, I am just saying in my experience it is a good enough starting point instead of draining your finances by living somewhere more expensive.
