The independent nation of West Australia

The independent nation of West Australia
"The WA secessionist movement plans to form a new political party, believing WA’s resources boom and a backlash against Canberra’s workplace laws has created a public appetite for an independent nation in the West."

Crackpots! That is all well and good while we are in a boom but we would become a third world nation in a depressed global economy.

Re: The independent nation of West Australia
Does seem a bit mad, but it does make me cross that WA contributes a huge amount to the economy yet gets little back from the federal government....

Incidentally, if you're part of the Commonwealth of Australia you shouldn't be thinking in terms of "them and us" - only "us".

Re: The independent nation of West Australia
But it very often feels like them and us when most of the concern seems to be centered on the eastern states...

Good God No!
The federal government is the only thing that keeps me sane in terms of politics here.
For those of you that know WA think about the following over the last year:
1. Performance of the DCD regarding children's welfare
2. Performance of Education department regarding OBE, contracts for mates, cover-ups of teacher-student relationships.
3. State of the health service (e.g. unregistered doctors operating)
4. Brian Burke affair and ministerial corruption.
5. Refusal of upper house to release documents to the corruption commission.
6. the farce over daylight savings (one politician saying that women won't be at home cooking dinner because they will be having a good time on the beach (paraphrase))
7. John D Orazios business affairs.
8. Constant delays and cost over-runs with anything to do with the DPI (union control also)
9. Shelley Archer
10. The way that vehicle inspections are conducted - queues thereof.
11. Stamp duty on houses
12. The slow rate of land release
13. Inexcusable delay in investigating the Esperance lead poisoning
There you go....rattled off from the top of my head from the last 12 months.

15. Inability to approve any new foreshore developments (I have never known a place to have so many ideas but to do absolutely nothing).
15. Farting around over new licencing laws which still have not been resolved.
I'm sure I'll think of more.

Isn't there a bit of a mining boom here in Queensland also?

The trouble with this line of thought is that it is perpetuated as long the country coninues to view itself as 7 different economies instead of one country with some regional differences.

Not so fast.
The Victorian government should also be hanging its head - I know less about the politics but its deal with the Police Union immediately prior to the election was a complete disgrace.
Queensland - well, where do you start? With the health service? With the Palm Island case? Or just with Peter Beattie?
Tasmania - wasn't there some kind of shennanigans with the deputy premier there?
NSW...NSW....NSW. Do they have a government?!
