Ho Hum.
Anyway, just pointing out that there's still a gap, even for many computer bits.

if you can find me this for $800 I'll be happy. :-)
I was looking at the global Dell alienware sites as they are a direct comparison from the same company. For an m18. Uk £1650, US $2000, aus $4000. ?????

MWave offer a 'build your own spec' service - I can't find that exat machine on their site, but you could try entering the components yourself and see how close you can get to the UK price.
Alternatively, Centrecom are a reasonably trustworthy local outfit. However, I wouldn't touch MLN with a barge pole, no matter how cheap their gear looks...

It's got a better graphics card, same processor (99% sure but cant confirm) but just a standard motherboard, for $891.
Given that was the first website I tried - I reckon there are better, cheaper deals out there.

They PC you linked to is pretty low spec, this is a far better PC for $1000

That's with about 2 mins of searching, so you could probably find a system a bit cheaper.
Alienware are a compete rip-off, look into building your own. It may seem daunting but its pretty easy really.

go to www.graysonline.com
they offer great deals on pcs & laptops, a lot are reconditioned or ex lease but come with 1 yr warranty.
i just bought an HP dv6 I7, 8gb ram, 1gb ATI radon, 1tb HDD for $550 all in as good as new. you can't get any deals like that in uk.

I agree. Electronics are one of the few things in Oz that are comparable and there is a distinct distance between online and retail price. Checked out a Nas drive recently ... JBhifi $350. Online in Oz $250 and Online UK £200 + shipping.

And I'd agree that there are better, more sensible, specs to be created (eg SSD, SATA III, Blu Ray, etc.)

Should be one close to you....
Circa $840 bucks for the I5 Add 15 bucks for the extra 4 gigs of ram.
Plus you get speakers a keyboard and mouse.... and a monitor... so upgrade and take off the parts you dont need they will deal..

Computers are one thing that are definitely a lot cheaper in Aus.

Thank you to everyone for pointing me in the right direction. I must have been looking in the wrong places.

There used to be permanent queues down the street @ the local one in Pascoe Vale circa 10 years back when it first opened. Which was amusing to see in a very small shopping strip.
