For the moment we have decided to see how they go with the local secondary and spend the money that they would be using on uniform and trips with the school on family trips etc. Like it or not, they're stuck with boring old Mum and Dad

(I have also wondered how much it would cost per anum for a private tutor in the evening, one on one, if a child was struggling in particular area, would it cost more, less, same??? and would this not work out as a good alternative

I can add myself to the mad list then!
I rented in an area and then bought because it was the catchment area for the schools I wanted my children to go to. I had moved house in the UK to ensure my children went to the schools right for them and moving 000's of miles was not going to change me. Course the school matters big time for children, like Sandra Oldfield said - wait till it is wrong and you will soon know about it and it can take years to get back what a bad environment can do to a child in a few short months in terms of confidence.
My childrens happiness is my first requirement and schools and being happy to go is a major part. If I could not of got the children into the schools of my choice I would have considered moving elsewhere. We did not confirm our rental until the school agree the places!
Cheers Sandra
