Default Immigration policy review

You sad lot better hurry up with them Visas as it looks like the pollies are looking to dump refugees where no one wants to go.

Migrants might be allowed into Australia only if they agree to live in poorly populated areas such as country Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, under an immigration policy being considered by Labor.

Shadow immigration minister Julia Gillard said the plan would aim to stop people shifting to Melbourne and Sydney by linking incentives to family reunion, employment and citizenship.

Ms Gillard said Labor would release a discussion paper on migration issues soon and a key theme would be boosting regional population growth. "We believe you can structure a package of carrots and sticks which will work to get growth where we need growth," she told Channel Seven's Sunday Sunrise.

The idea has some sense to it.

Look at all the jobs for doctors, nurses, social workers etc in 'remote rural and isolated' areas. Nobody want those jobs. Despite all of Australias "space" nobody cares to live in a desert.

Teachers are made to do a few years of Country service before they get to the jobs in Cities and coast.

Houses in those areas are so cheap, but people wont move there despite good jobs and cheap housing.

If people are prepared to move out into hot, remote, dusty barren areas they should be welcomed, lets face it not many Aussies are going to go there are they?

Plenty of English Immos talk about all of Australias space and land, they may just be the very people to take it on.

Bargains galore if you can hack it. Why live in crowded cities when we have all this lovely space! go for it I say.

The idea has merit but as you say Immos would not last the pace in rural Australia , its only for the real go getters not the beach crowd.

What about the system Oz uses on Teachers? Take a job for 3 years in remote and isolated region then you 'qualify' to apply for the city and coast jobs.

I mean Oz cant just keep on shoving millions into the few bits of land people want to live in. Somebodies gotta go West. (Whats wrong with 7 zillion flies, 3 days drive for milk anyway). Joking Joking..............

Same for the police force here , that sorts out those who want a job and those who want a life.
