i'm back

Hi All,

We arrived back at LHR this morning, left Geraldton thurs at 11am stayed in Perth overnight and flew to HKG on Friday should have left HKG that night and arrived saturday morning in LHR but there was no room on the flight (standby) so got back this morning. Did a massive shop in HKG and booked ourselves into a nice hotel for the night so had a good relax

Any way down to all my news

What a crazy couple of months this has been, basically we were goin to geraldton for a wedding so decided that we might aswell get my visa before the trip so we could get it validated on this trip as we were planning on the big move in about 18 months. we had been looking at houses and were hoping to buy something that e could rent out until we moved over, then about 5 weeks about 5 weeks ago we were on an estate agents web site and for some reason had a quick look at the business' for sale, up popped the details of a backpackers for sale, Ant and I just look in awe at the computer screen and both said that we wanted it, so the next few weeks was spent emailing the owners and the estate agent and they kindly put the place on hold for our arrival. so we arrived in Geraldton on the 18th Aug and went straight to see the place, told them we would let them know by monday as we were busy with the wedding etc over the next few days. On monday we put the offer in and an hour later it was accepted. (aghhhhhhhh we are so excited) that night we went out with a friend in Gero to celebrate and were just saying how everything had all come together so easily and how weird it all was. Then I asked the bar maid where the pub got there lighters made (the type with the name of the business on the side etc), so she goes and asks the pub manager and he asks her to send me round to speak to him, it turns out that he is head of tourism in Geraldton so we had a great chat and a 2 hr lock in with him. It was great to meet him and we are hoping to do some business with his pub for meals for the backpackers.

Anyway we take over the backpackers on the 1st Nov, I might have to stay in the Uk for a bit longer and Ant will go over on his own but I won't be more than a month or 2 behind him.

here are a couple of sites for the backpackers for anyone who is interested obvioulsy if any of you are heading up the west coast at any time pop in.

Congratulations!!!!!
Wow, how cool! :D

The hostel sounds great, good location, and good rooms(like, not big dorms, real beds etc).
And YHA, which I think is good to have, being part of a bigger organisation.

Good luck with everything in the coming months, and we'll be seeing you in the summer then! :D

Wow, can't believe you're buying that backpackers! My & the other half spent a night there a few years ago - the room we had was really lovely & spacious (it was a double room). Wonderful location, as well. Congrats!

Hi Kala,

I'm so pleased that things went well whilst you were there. Did you bump into my Aunt and finace at the Tavern in the Chapman Valley ?

Hope the purchase goes smoothly. Jill and I will promise to call in and say hi the first time we go up to the farm. Jill is going up in the school half term I think in October so won't see you then.

Anyway, I'm sure the time will fly by before you (and me) will be flying back out.

Good luck and best wishes

Warren (and Jill)
Perth in 9 weeks and counting.....

SNAP!

Caroline and I have just taken over the Wander Inn Backpackers in Bunbury (south west WA). We are just managing it but have long term contracts which is good. Our first week was an eye opener with a pissed Welsh bloke screaming in his sleep at 2am on our first night, the mother of all storms on our second resulting in 6 power poles being blown down and us being without power for 19 hours and a third night where we were woken by a fight between the same Welsh bloke and a Dutch guy. Needless to say that they weren't staying with us the following night. I almost forgot I wasn't in the RAF anymore and didn't have a big police dog when I tried to pull these two 6 foot + blokes apart. The owner reckons we were very unlucky and that sort of thing rarely happens - here's to hoping. Since then we've had no problems or sleepless nights which is good.

The main perks should start kicking in next week with a scenic flight, some kayaking with dolphins and maybe a wreck dive - all for FREE! If you need any help or advice from someone who has been in the industry for 5mins feel free to drop me a line. I'm sure you'll both have an absolute blast doing it - the best thing is you actually get to spend time with each other (our jobs in Perth meant we only had 2 hours a night together). Our website is www.bunburybackpackers.com.au The site needs a good revamping but the general idea of it is there.

Anyway I've wittered on enough - GOOD LUCK and hope everything goes great for you both.

Tony

Wow, Tony!

Gosh, you did have bad luck!!! Yeah, that storm was bad!

Well, I can't say we'll every stay with you, cos we have good friends in Bunbury, but we might drop in some time.
And if anyone ever needs a place to stay in Bunbury I'll know where to send them ;)

Good luck! and have fun with those activities!!!
:)

Wow, how bizzare, not looking forward to any fights, that is the one thing that worries me Lucky hubby is 6'4" cos i'l be hiding from any fights I'l keep an eye out for any dodgy screaming welsh blokes.

Any of our's who are heading south we'll send your way.

Good luck to you guys and hopefully we can all make a good go of it.

Cheers
Kala
