Illness in Oz

I'm sitting here feeling sh*tty and sorry for myself! I've got pneumonia AGAIN! :(

This is the second time I've had this since I landed here. I know of at least 5 people who've had it. What the hell is going on with this place? I didn't know that many cases of it back in the UK.

I reckon it's because there's not enough freezing cold weather to kill off the germs.

Anyone else heard of people getting pneumonia? Or am I just damn unlucky!

Back to my sofa and the fleecy, pile of tissues and the antibiotics.

Hi,

We have been on the Gold Coast for two weeks now and my daughter has had some kind of pneumonia, which she appears to have caught from her cousin here (he ended up in hospital with it). she is on the mend now, but have to say both son and daughter have been ill this week and they were never sick in England. I suppose it is the change in climate, huge upheaval for both of them and defences must be low.

Anitobiotics seem to be working anyway.

Hope you feel better soon! I spent the whole school summer holiday in bed with pneumonia in the UK so I know how you feel.

Hope you Get well for Christmas!!

I was told by a doctor it is very common for new immigrants to get illnesses soon after arriving. It happened to me 2 days after getting to Australia, although i have a medical condition which lowers my immune system. I was sick for 3 weeks!!

Hi Tracey

Sorry to hear you are not well, not in quite same boat as you but I have had one thing after another since arriving in Perth. Been into casualty twice, won't go into gory details but had one op & then just recovering from that & then b*ggar me I crushed/split open my right index finger on our multigym. We have been here since late Aug & I haven't been able to work yet! Am so fed up being stuck in the house, was bed ridden for 2 weeks & first 3 weeks of broken finger I couldn't even dress myself!! Gotta laugh or I'll end up crying! Finger is on the mend slowly, but did such a good job on it that 8 weeks on its still bandaged up, I am an accounts clerk so can't type or write at the moment :(

Lets hope the new year will bring us all a change of luck. Get well soon.

Clare

Hia,

Sorry you are feeling so bad, always feels worse when the weather is so hot too. We seemed to pick up alot of bugs when we first arrived, 1 person would get better and then another would get sick and then once we were all better the first person seemed to be ill again  the dr said it has nothing to do with being in another country and that all bugs mutate, but it did seem that we were having a bucket load of being ill.

Things seem to have settled down now, we have been here 9 months, I have found an excellent Dr too and he bulk bills which is even better...hope you are feeling better soon and fingers crossed you will be ok for Christmas.

Carol
