Ian Guy!
Hey
Y'r help is greatly needed......Pls tell me and all others as of how U got all the job offers? Thanks: scared: |
Re: Ian Guy!
I trawled through www.nzjobs.co.nz and
www.netcheck.co.nz on a regular basis (in my old job!!). I set up my CV in both, so that I had the ability to respond ASAP and had a standard letter for applying on my HD that I adapted for each. I probably applied for about 20 jobs and I had about 6 telephone interviews and two offers prior to coming. I may have stuffed some of the interviews, as I already knew I had an offer though. On telephone interviews - 1) Use the net and do your research. My background is health, so I downloaded docs from the Ministry of Health site and highlighted what I felt was relevant (think 'transferrable skills' that gets you around not knowing the system). I also checked out as much as I could about the area, the hospital, etc. When asked a question I often had the answer in my hands. If you are in other industries this would also apply, just do the legwork. Also be frank about the changes that will affect your life (e.g the big move) but demonstrate you have thought it all through. 2) When the intro's are being done write the names of the panel down, as well as their job roles - this may help in terms of answering questions and the direction they are looking. Also when they say "I'll now pass you to our general manager" you can say, "Hi jim, how are you, etc..." so it shows you are on the ball. 3) I f the line is bad, e.g. lag, tell them - it seriously affects the process. 4) The biggest problem of the phone interview is getting feedback - you can't see the non-verbals. Don't be afraid to ask - "is that what you were expecting to hear?" if there is a pregnant pause. Also, they may say at the end "how has this gone?" - be frank, tell them that without the NV's it is hard to assess. After a couple you'll have a feel for how it has gone. Hope this helps.
