I wonder if...
Aussies sit and wish they could come live in the UK??
I mean, is the grass greener for everyone?
I guess for an Aussie, its good to some to the UK, suffer the conditions but earn good sterling and then head back down under and retire to a farm in Queensland ;-)
They have it good, especially with the Ancestory visa (4 years) which isn't very reciprocal for UK folks generally as it was one way traffic back then.
And then, they also get 2 years on a working visa to our 1, whats all that about??
Pesky Aussies!!! We've gotta stop being so nice to you lot :-)

My wife's cousin did exactly that. But there is a difference, they come here as a stepping stone whereas we are mostly going there as an end point.
Perhaps I will do that, though slightly more long term, suffer here for my working life and then retire out there with all my dosh!!! ;-)

Re: I wonder if...
Personal perspective - I enjoy travelling in Europe, in summer!!! - but
couldn't afford to live there on my savings as a self-funded retiree (indeed
have no desire to do so), and really don't think I could survive winter
there. The cost of living relative to wages is much lower in Australia
(check out any decent PPP comparison - parity at point of purchase - the
ONLY valid comparison!).
Very few Australians qualify for the ancestry visa. Australians do, however
travel widely and often - and are usually happy to get home again - isn't
everyone??
The big question is I suppose - just where you want to make your home!!!
It's all very much a matter of personal choices.
