Hi everyone
Trying to take all this in, i am useless with this sort of thing i have to say. Im not selling anything from the site , just myself the business and not in a bad way or good way which ever way you look at it. So really i just want people to be able to go , see what i have to offer and then contact me. The market i am targeting is not Australia based it will be UK, South africa, etc. Perhaps i should have explained what i was doing that would have saved peoples time sorry . As i said a while ago, and i know a company offers a similar service and we know who they are i am offering a meet and greet service here in Perth, pre booking temporary accommodation and longer if required( this being local perth establishments and not our own, so i am helping the local communtity etc), car hire, handing out loads of info in a pack and 24 hours aday on going support, then anything else people may want. I have an advert going into the UK based Outbound magazine in June ( quick plug there ) So i need some support here people please. Thanks alot guys

Sounds like a good idea < although> perhaps it would be worthwhile looking at some other similar services offered elsewhere to get a feel for website content.

Basics of the website:
Home page , snazzy to the point and fast loading, good use of logos will instill confidence and quality
Main navigation page <pages>
A page summarising all of the services you offer, together with the affiliations of for eg. car hire companies.
Disclaimers page and terms and conditions, inc copyright etc.
Order ./ enquiry pages, simple form will do, info gathering... and allowing you to cost for your services.
Perhaps a newsletter would be cool, so that could be implemented.
Maps of local areas, and attractions, this could be beneficial in many ways, including links to recommended cafes, hotels attractions etc.
An about us page, so that you can explain your background, experience and create a more intimate experience with the browser.
Finally costs and what our customers say page would be cool, together with perhaps a guestbook

All in the website should or could be approx 10-20 pages. Amount of disk space on a server approx 5-15mb dependant on size, low traffic as its a specialist service and a new website, so bandwidth shouldnt be an issue.

Set aside $130 + for the domain and registration <ish> By law in Oz you must display or ABN or BCN number and this must be registered to you .

Webdesign and implementation should cost $100 per page <ish> dependant on coding and complexity, more you provide and simpler it is , cheaper it becomes.

Set aside approx $500 - $1000 for site submissions, to:- and there are hundreds but id stick with these

Inktomi
ineedhits
alltheweb
altavista
teoma
the open directory project < most inportant>
yahoo
microsoft bcentral
msn < looksmart> whatever its called now
and whoever else.

There are lots of search engines , so perhaps submit free to as many as you can

Operate a strong reciprocal links system, you could use www.linksmanager.com they have the most superb automated system and it works.

Lots and lots of search engines now, look at the link structure of a website, and a weak link structure gives you shite placement, google rely heavily on this.

Create a simple email template that you can send to as many webmasters as possible asking for reciprocal links..

Trust me if you can do this yourself you will save a fortune, alhough its very time consuming.

Good Luck and as ULU said good use of cascading style sheets can and will make the site look slick , if done properley

10 or so years of making pages.

Do *NOT* spend a cent submitting your site to any search engine submitter. Search engines will pick your site up. I cannot stress this highly enough. Google, Altavista and Yahoo are 95% of all search engines out there and none of them can be bought.

Not sure where Timber Floor Au got the $130 registration figure from. It costs me $14 a year to maintain my .org domain and that's all it cost me to begin with. There's no law or obligation saying you have to be a com.au just because you're in Australia.

If it costs $130 to register a com.au in Australia I'd say screw that and just go with a .com. Costs $14-$20 per annum.

Seriously research website creation and maintenance before spending a cent on anything or anyone.

Because you are going to be ripped off if you're not awake to what is a fair deal.

Well needless to say , some people really do think they know it all.

Quite worrying, bearing in mind its a forum to share views not force your opinion down peoples throats.

Wot a crock of absolute fuqn codwallop !!!!

Search engines will not rank you unless you submit your search engine, ffs man have you not learnt ANYTHING !

$130 dollars is the offer netrigsty offer for 2 years + free hosting ya FUQWIT !! try doing some research before ya start

.com.au are actually a very vital and significant domain to purchase, and i wont explain but im sure a quick search on the net will suffice , !

Re: not requiring a .com.au name if you are in Australia,
If you wish to sell goods via a website, within australia, you are required to do so, via .com.au domain name, that im pretty sure about, but would apologise profusely if im incorrect

Advice:

Try reading the nature of the enquiry from the beginning rather than jumping in , this lady wants a cheap website, produced and hosted.

Many millions of ppl, some who own .ORG names think producing a website and chucking it on the web, will get you noticed ! Some even do classy scripts, and awesome flash presentations, but alas their site sits at the bottom of the PILE gathering moss like a rotten egg !

<owns 19 websites at present>

Wavsworld.com, which i owned and sold some 18 months ago, was ranked number 1 on every search engine worldwide. We had Hits approaching 2 million per month, with a bandwidth of 200gb per month !!!

That site was created using frontpage 2002 , was optimised by me and earnt me a tidy sum when i sold it ! And i hasten to add , it had no CSS script and the HTML was possibly apalling !

Yeah, you submit them, but don't pay MONEY (a cent) for them, like Ulujain said!

I submitted our site all over the place without paying money, and it comes up really high in Google. And it's not even a commercial one, so not even important.

Oh, and I don't think Joanne is selling goods? She's promoting a service!

Good luck Joanne
It's gonna cost you I'm afraid, unless you can do it yourself....

You pay peanuts you get monkeys, and the views expressed in the previos reply were bourne of the fact Joanne didnt explain initially she wasnt selling online

Well, it is true that google finds your site eventually right?
But you can submit it yourself too. (without paying).
And of course it all depends on the words you put in there somewhere (meta somethings???)

The website I was talking about was http://home.planet.nl/~wijnb086/
If you type in 'Discover Australia in google, it comes out on the second page at the top!

And typing it into the dutch version of google (www.google.nl), takes you to place number 7
( I didn't make it btw, my husband the web designer did (coming to Perth in July btw Joanne . Just kidding!)
