Also remember that quite a few native plants are irritants. Grevilleas in particular can bring up enormous rashes if you are succeptible - as Mrs Wol will confirm!

Well! I find that if i don't wear perfume or scented things then i don't get bitten by the mosquitoes so much, its worth a try.

This morning I have 3 new huge red painful itchy spots on the back of my neck, yesterday I got 3 on my uper arm while we were out (and mainly in the car!), night before I got covered on my back and hips.
In fact the only thing not bitten so far is my face but I guess that wont be left alone eventually.

I have only ever got bites like this when in the Med and at that time it was mosquitos.
I know you get mozzies in Oz but aren't they seasonal and I didnt think it was 'their time' at the mo.

If not mozzies then what the hell are they? And what can I do about it?

Any help greatly appreciated

Incidently they dont seem to be biting the kids or the other half!!!! Grrrrrr

When i go on holiday i take vitamin B tablets, i start to take them a week before my holiday and have not been bitten whilst taking them. I have also heard vegimite can help. Some people say it wont make a difference, but without it i get bitten badly.

Believe me, if you live Mandurah way this year nothing you can take or use will stop you getting bitten except aeroguard. Even the local paper has a massive full page spread on how to try and avoid getting bitten and say that the natural alternatives are not as effective as anything that contains Deet. Deet isn't nice but better than being bitten to death. We have been out a fair bit as the weather is still so good and tried everything (I specifically stocked up on Avon before coming out) and none of it works - even aeroguard, despite spraying liberally, the mossies got me on my inner thighs and a** !! Not a day goes by without more bumps. You can do dot to dot on my back these days !!

Mossies are shocking at the moment ,have the zapper on ,mortein coils going & citronella ,bought loads of those plants that are supposed to repel mossies if you water them at dusk (thats if you can get near them at dusk to water them)and covered in deet & still get bitten The local Mandurah paper said it was something to do with the tides

I've been told to take B12 tablets and they wil start to work after a week or 2. It stops the mozzies from biting you.

i got a few mozzie bites at same time in the same place on my ankle and it swelled up huge and was so itchy but after that i never seemed to have much bother with them again. OH had similar incident but his hand swelled up like a blown up rubber glove and then he was same as me, no more bother. Don't know if we were extreme cases or normal ?

As another poster has said Avon soft & fresh moisturiser or dry oil spray is known to keep the mozzies away. Its even advertised as anti-mozzie! Its the green one (Soft & fresh scent). My sister who lives in Roleystone has an Avon lady. If not, there's loads on ebay who will ship to Oz.

We are coming over in May and i have stocked up on the dry oil spray.
Avon do actually advertise it as mozzie repellant!
It smells lovely too but i think it only repells because it contains citronella and maybe any other cream with this in would do the same?
I dunno but i ve bought loads of the stuff!
Janice.
