Piss off - no really piss off.
Lets remove all the rules and regulations so we can do what we like, when we like, adapt the laws to suit ourselves and then cry 'Its gone to the dogs' when things go wrong.
You would be the first to moan if you were affected in a bad way by a lapse in security/customs/quarantine.

Did this guy steal your kid, or do you work in the customs department? Either way, lets try to keep it civil.
I vote that we should solve this problem the Australian way. Lets all meet in a big pub somewhere and debate the topic with the locals until the weeee hours of the morning, henceforth declaring the problem solved and waking up the next day with a hangover.

Re: I DON'T LIKE LIVING IN AUSTRALIA BECAUSE...
I find a number of things annoying about Australia, but nothing more so than the Aussie tendency to be pathologically unable to accept ANY criticism of the place whatsoever.
People I know who've lived in a number of countries report that Australia is just about the only place where they've experienced that.
They act like you've just called their mum a dirty whore.
It's especially annoying when Brits who have moved here do it - in fact, they seem to do it even more passionately, perhaps because accepting criticism of Australia makes their decision to move seem less clear cut in their minds.

What sort of people are you hanging around. It seems to me you're one of these migrants whose got a bit of a raw deal - and haven't had a chance to sample the delights elsewhere....but I could be wrong...

p.s. my comment was meant in jest, but you do seem to have confirmed my point.

Re: I DON'T LIKE LIVING IN AUSTRALIA BECAUSE...
While I understand the Quarantine laws with regards to food, plants etc. Fair enough.
What does annoy me, as other people have said, is the fact that as an Australian Citizen I still have to fill in a card when leaving the country and when arriving, I need to give them details about where I am going, how long for, what the purpose of the trip is for, my occupation, my address, and then when arriving back I have to do the same again.
Sorry but it is none of their business where I go outside of Australia, and what I do once I leave, it is none of their business weather I am going overseas for work or pleasure, none of their business how long for or where I intend to spend most of my time, and my occupation is irrelevant.

I am all in favour of the thorough way they deal with prohibited substances.
In the UK it is ridiculously lax - probably in some short sighted attempt to save money. I came through Heathrow a few days ago from Malaysia and there were no staff in the Green Channel, no staff in the Red channel, no detailed information about what was allowed/ not allowed and nobody to ask if you were not sure. There was a telephone you could ring!!!
If I was a UK farmer I would be furious.

-I cannot pack my own shopping at stores
-People walk around the city in bare feet, its disgusting
-Its to damn hot and sunny for most of the year, at least rain never gave u skin cancer
-The outdoor lifestyle that people talk about in australia relies on getting a day where its not to hot, not to many flies around and I still have to wear suncream that messes up my skin, no thanks,
-Theres a million shops but they have bugger all choice of products and things like fruit and veg are poor quality
-The tv and radio are packed with to many adverts so as to become unwatchable/listenable, especially odd ones like viagra type ads in the middle of the day
-In perth especially theres very poor lighting on streets at night
-Everywhere looks a bit crappy and run down, even if its a busy area, people just dont seem to take pride in keeping things looking nice, they cannot be bothered
-Everything is way to expensive, from rentals, cars, to shopping
I could add about another 20 thing sbut am out of time

Walking barefoot is an Aussie trait, dangerous rather than disgusting - I found it disgusting to see these fat blokes at Mahon Airport with their guts exposed, ditto on building sites.
It is mega hot in summer often but then why do so many Poms FLOCK to Spain, Greece, Turkey, etc in the hottest months of the year.Stay in England for the August school holidays and enjoy the Med for the Easter holidays.
It's going to belt down here in Sydney in a minute - thunder and lightning building up.

of the disgusting small minded way they treat asylum seekers, trying to force a developing country Indonesia to take care of them when they claim to be one of the richest countries in the world, the numbers arriving by boat are tiny, Australia should thank its lucky stars that Indonesians and there are over 250 million of them, many dirt poor dont try and enter illegaly, then Australia really would have something to worry about.

Those people on the Customs' ship are NOT refugees. Funny but that ship is overloaded too - I wonder what would happen if it confronted lots more boats full of refugees?
Australia might be a big country but 90 per cent of it is unhabitable - why not send all the reffos there.

well now the sri lankens have identified at least two of the boat people are wanted tamil tigers the plot thickens , in some respects australia is in an awkward position.
I dont think it has any option but to stick them in the clink and process them ,deny them all entry after 5 years in the slot and send em back farmyard class via quantas .Thatll teach em to try and cheat the system .

They couldn't take it. Went mad. Climbed the security fence and swan dived face down on the razor wire below.

Genuine refugees are very very different than the people coming on boats claiming to be refugees. Bloody queue jumpers.
