HSBC Want £100 to open OZ account!
Unless I'm a "Premier Account holder" I have to pay them £100 to open up an account in OZ:curse:
"OK, become a Premier account customer then" I hear you say. But that account sucks, it's overly complicated, and even they don't fully understand it. It comes with a set of secret rrequirements that only a few mystic banking people know about!!! I think you can go on a training course to learn all about it
I've seen all the other banking threads, But I was just wondering is this a new charge? Did anyone else pay them the £100?

Re: HSBC Want £100 to open OZ account!
HSBC have very few branches and ATMs in Oz.
Find out which bank has plenty of ATMs where you want to move and go with them. We've opened an account with Westpac (going to Perth). We did it over the 'phone - completely hassle-free: two accounts set up and internet banking. Opening the account didn't cost anything. Already transferred money into the savings account with HiFX.
Forget HSBC.

Are you sure its £100 charge and not that they just want a deposit of at least £100 to open the account with? This is not that unusual over here

Re: HSBC Want £100 to open OZ account!
This isnt true, I had a standard hsbc account in the UK and last year asked them to open up an australian one, they did so with no charges. I transfered my money over using moneycorp and have never had any problems.
Rather than open an account with an oz bank I still use my hsbc one, it works out great.

How did I miss that one
I thought HSBC would be easy and I liked there serious saver account. No one mentioned the £100 fee before so I was a bit surprised.
I'll get that setup tonight. cheers,

We had already opened an ANZ while we were in Australai so we will stick with just that one. We wanted HSBC because we were with in the UK them but bollocks to that

I used the numbers on this thread...though we got up at 5AM UK time to ring mid-afternoon Oz time - I think the contact centre is in Taz

Re: HSBC Want £100 to open OZ account!
Wouldn't bother with HSBC if you are coming to QLD.
I don't think there are any branches here at all.
I went to my local HSBC to open an Aus account before emigrating and they suggested I join another bank !!!
