Howards latest message, work for the love of your country.
Howards new worker, doing it for the love not the money, I mean who needs a decent wage and work conditions
More workplace reforms in mind, I wonder when he says the worlds most productive economies he sees us all in asian sweatshops for $4 an hour.

But he always sounds so depressed; kinda like a really sad hamster.
Actually, he reminds me of the original Holly from Red Dwarf.
Love the way that the article ends by discussing how things will affect journalists.

He said it was his understanding that the journalists would still have the statutory minimum of four weeks' leave after they cashed out two weeks. "I've only read the report and I can say as a matter of principle that four weeks will be the standard and any cashing out will be entirely at the request of the employee."

Thats alright then, because when those sweatshops (call centres, whatever) have taken all the jobs away and we're all at home dole-bludging watching the simpsons on Channel 10 it'll be great and we can all enjoy our pools and fishing more.
What he actually said is that China and India are great economic powers and they are progressively dominant in global economy - anyone in business can see that India and China are about to explode into the world markets - they are almost unstoppable in that respect. Its inevitable their population mass and low cost of living equate to mass movement of anything that can be done remotely ending up there. Its almost like the UK , everything went from spread around , then to scotland/newcastle (call centres) , now they're closing and that stuff is going to eastern europe , then they close and move to india soon it'll be china.
So we either sit round on award wages in protected jobs and wait 5 yrs to be made redundant because the economy collapses or we get real and encourage business to start and operate . Howard has also said categorically that protection from being fired for family responsibility, age, sex, etc, are all protected even in the sub 100 employees area.
What I guess these reforms really target & stop is the ability of those who dont or cannot perform in a job going after a sub 100 staff employer because he fires them for failure to perform.

He also said:
The Prime Minister said last night that a large number of these enterprise workers understood businesses needed to be successful for their jobs to be safe.
It makes sense for a business to need to be successful, otherwise: no business = no employees = no wages

Companies under 100 people will be punishable if they unlawfully fire someone. There is debate going on about whether Howard is telling the truth on what a company will be able to fire someone on. Someone more familiar with unfair/unlawful dismissal differences maybe able to fill us in amid the propaganda generated by both sides.
Change is needed but it needs to be reasonable change across the board, not Dickensian conditions for those in companies under 100.
China and India are the new economic opportunities for the world, not just call centres.
