Default How well will I live? Brissy

In Brisbane with a 90K salary + super? I'll be alone.
Just wondering if I had to ask more.

Also any thoughts about living in West End? Currently it's the neighbor I'm looking to live in.

Also if anyone know about a 1 bedroom rent in West End, let me know. I'll be arriving beginning of June.

Cheers!

Well, you'll be taking home just under $1,700 per week if you are a resident for tax purposes , so I'd say you would be comfortably well off.

To give you some idea, you can get some nice rental apartments in the west end area for $400 to $500 per week. Bills won't set you back much more than $50 or $60 all up, including phone and internet. Food $100 max.

So that leaves you with approx $1k per week disposable income... To give you an idea of some costs, a beer will set you back $6 in the pub. Coffee $3.50. A main course in a decent restaurant $25 - $40. Concert tickets $40 to $100. Petrol $1.40 per litre. Clothes & electronics are roughly the same as the uk, maybe a tiny bit more.

Hope you enjoy it over here !

heh heh !! I stuffed that one up good and proper ....cheers NickyC !

So, the original poster will actually have somewhere between $600 and $700 per week disposable income.... Not enough to live a life of luxury, but enough $$$ to give him / her the freedom to do most things.

thanks guys!
I'm roughly at 1300 per 2 weeks in Canada (Mtl) right now. With a monthly rental of 750 CAD. I don't own a car, nor plan to own one (as I don't even have a driving licence)
So quite happy about having 700 or even 600 a week =)
More than enough it seems (for my standards at least).
Also if anyone know where to buy some good furniture i'll be more than interrested =)
Cheers!

You WILL need a car and a licence in Australia I can assure you otherwise you will find your mobility severely restricted.

I think the after tax figure puts it into perspective. Fine for the single for a family hardly a fortune is it

Just come back from west end. Had a great meal, chinese in Jackpot noodle, $30.50 for both me and the wife including 1 VB and 1 HahnThat was for 1 Singapore noodle, 1 laksa, 1 chicken n ginger, 1 rice and 1 chicken n sweetcorn soup.
Absolutely beautiful to. So much competition that meals are very cheap. The round of abuse we got from a gang of pissed up aboriganies kind of put a dampener on it though:curse:
First time thats happened to me though in 2 years, but then again there was about 20 of them and thats the first time i've seen a gang of them in brissy.
Westend seems to have a good vibe about it but there's no way I'd live there as I have a family, probably be different if I was single

Good luck mate, as long as you work close by you will be well off

If you've visited West End regularly then I'd be surprised if it was the first time you'd seen this. I'm not really a fan of West End...I think it tries to have that grungy, laid back, eclectic feel to it, but really, it's just a bit of an eyesore IMO - albeit with a few standout restaurants. Some of the hilly residential parts heading towards Highgate Hill are pretty nice, but the main drag, nah!

I'll be working in the valley. The only other part of brissy i'm considering is Teneriffe if I can't find something in West End.
With my look, I doubt aboriginals gangs (wtf) would even try to bother me but then again they might be even more annoying hehe...As I sympathize with theyre cause I doubt it would become a problem tho.
