Yes, just remember that next time you complain about lettuce being a few cents to expensive.

Last nights news they are saying farmers are giving away next years ewes for 50c each, long term disaster however there is nothing to feed the animals. Supermarkets are taking the piss despite the stock prices the farmers are getting meats still soaring in price

Always a bit ironic people when people talk about a better climate Its not just a outback problem, some cities are heading to level 4 water restrictions.

Whats amazing tho is here, where we do get rain, the sugar cane industry has been stopped, thousands of acres of fertile land just sitting there, most cane farmers are not allowed to sell it for housing development, pity some of the stock cant be brought in for feed.

Some of the older ewes are going to be killed and their bodies put in a pit if nothing else can be done. Rural news radio report yesterday I heard.

This is an awful situation. Anyone who says drought assistance shouldn't be paid really can't see the reality.

BTW, for every game of 'Squatter' bought, there's a $ donated to Drought relief. Everyone should have Squatter - it's an Australian institution. (Like monopoly but with sheep farming!)

Australia must recycle all of its water.. .the present system cannot support the amount of people in the country. The catchment area scheme is not working to supply larger cities either ... yet all of Sydney's rain water runs down the storm drains into the sea... yet they talk of desalination rather than cleaning and re-using water.

It makes one wonder when they will take action to recycle properly. Probably be if/when it stops coming out of the taps in cities like Sydney.
A lot of people you speak to say 'Oh that's Australia - flood and drought' but the population has risen incredibly over the last 10 years and they don't seem to work that bit out.

Lots of the water currently coming out of the taps in Sydney is currently being taken from the Shoalhaven river, five minutes from my house. So great is the demand being placed on the river that thanks to salt-water ingress, there are no fish at all in what used to be one of the greatest fishing rivers in the country. And now they're talking about putting in a pipeline to shore up demand. I doubt they'll see the bigger picture even when they've totally screwed up this entire river ecosystem.

You've got a point but how will not filling up their pools help farmers many, many miles away?

Indeed... I don't understand why people insist on flushing their toilets with drinking water either.
Going to get a grey water system into my house and use it all for toilet etc.

Yes, I agree. I've put two bricks in our cistern, and it still flushes gallons of water down the pan.
