Default How soon before I can move in?

hello everyone,

I will be arriving in Melbourne on Jan 2008 and I have already prepared a list of units/apartments that I would like to rent. Does anyone know how long it takes before I can move in to the unit after signing the contract? I just want to know if it takes days or weeks to get the formalities done.

Thanks to anyone who answers my silly questions!

It depends on whether there is a tenant already in there I guess. But if there is they usually advertise that it will be ready on such and such a date.

If not you usually get the keys on the day, or within a week at the most. It's usually pretty quick. The hard part is getting the lease

:
Not necessarily. We wanted to inspect a house at Boondall as the ad said a certain date to be available from. We found out that they were still doing renos well after it and would not let us have a look. We waited three weeks after date but still no look, so told them to forget it and went to another agent.

A) As Wendy said, there maybe a tennant already there for awhile before their lease runs out;
B) How many other applicants there are to sort through;
C) It depends on how long the approval takes to come through, can take days usually, but it depends on the owner making a decision.
