HI guys. Generally speaking, most landlords will require a 4 week Bond (returnable when you move out, less any payments for damage or whatever. Most likely, you would get it all back as you are good tenants, aren't you!), plus two weeks rent money up front. Other costs depend on your situation - ie are you going to buy a car, that'll set you back between $3000 (for an old bomb) to $25,000 for a new base model 6 cylinder Ford, or maybe $13,000 (ish) for a new, small Hyundai. Driving licences - depends on where you settle, but you'll have to take a driving test after about 3 months, another couple of hundred dollars each, plus you have to pay for your actual driving licence. Will you need furniture or are you bringing yours? The list is endless and really depends on your personal situation, but hope this gives you some idea. adelaidegirl

Have at least $10,000 to start you off , I think you must be able to support yourselfs for 2 years now to be able to emigrate. There is no welfare hand outs for you for first 2 years , so make sure you can get a job before you get here .
Best of Luck

Good advice. Australia is not as cheap as some would have you believe! You don't want to put yourself under pressure financially before you're even settled.

It also depends on where you're going, of course. Sydney is a lot more expensive than places like Perth and Adelaide.

Hope it all goes well.
