40mins outside Melbourne, medium size houses can be had for 350,000ish.
On acreage, not much more if you get lucky.

After living in Coburg, I doubt if I could ever be tempted to move out. Firstly I hate driving (to work and back). If one had a job that was say a 30 min drive away, that would have to cost at least 50 bucks a week in petrol ?? Even at sub 1 dollar a litre.
(just preparing for "a where to live for migrants thread" in the all important area of when one first arrives. I beleive the inner city is a must for new arrivals because of Job opportunity's , whereas most new arrivals "I'm guessing" choose on straight out asthetic values, but am open to debate. badge
