Default How much did you pay for a tax return?

Hi There

A question.....
I have been quoted $750.00 (per couple) to complete a UK tax return and $350 + GST (Each) to complete an Australian tax return.

Would you pay $1,520.00 or is this over priced?

What did you pay???????

Nothing, did it myself. Have own business, have capital gains etc.

I would say $100 for a normal tax return

We paid $100 each for our Aus one last year. The cost apparently can be claimed on this year's return, so it's all good.

Thanks 'guys'

I've always done mine on-line previous years and been happy, but I thought this year I'd try an 'expert' but have been shocked by the costs! I realise that not all tax accountants will charge the same, so might try and get some more quotes.

Anyone know a good Tax Accountant?

Cost of an Australian tax return is cheap compared to what accountants in the UK charge. Highway robbery.

But comparing apples and pears is like that - different methods of tax equals different options.

I never had to comeplete a tax return in the UK so never paid anything for an accountant. In Aus, you have to (although you do not always have to pay for an accountant although I do because it tends to save me more than I spend), thus I pay...

We used one here in Butler called All Ways Tax. Ours was pretty straightforward, so didn't have a problem.

I pay about the same. Not bad really considering my tax return is much more complex in the UK than in Australia.

At a guess you went to an Accountants office for that quote, and not a standard tax Agent.

If you are self employed, or have complex tax needs, the Accountant at $350+ gst 'may' be more value than a standard tax agent at about $75-$100 inc gst.

They often learn different things, personal tax rules compared to the more complex business tax rules, etc.

As an individual, $100 should be the maximum to pay, although many people do it themselves, but not the majority.

Aussie one I did myself.
UK - just paid 200 pounds. For dregs of closing my company, and UK personal tax return including rental income.

Standard Tax Agent cost me $90... I have done it myself in the past but thought for the sake of $90, part of which you can claim back anyway, I might as well use an 'expert'.
