How long to settle in

How long did it take for you to settle into your new life.
I would imagine the first few weeks would be an emotional high and a novelty but how does it feel when the novelty wears off and realisation sets in that this is a new life?

My Sister moved to Australia 15 years ago, she says it took her a couple of years to feel "settled". However, even now she refers to England as home, she was over here for the first time in 15 years a couple of weeks ago.

She loves Australia but equally misses the UK

We will find out soon how it is

I have a friend in Tassie, she has been here since 1960, and although her husband settled at once, she still yearns for the UK, calls it home, and goes back every 2 years. Hope it doesn't take me that long.

Hi There
We have been in Perth nearly 2 years now, and it has taken me a good 15 months and the rest to start feeling settled. But as said in conversation to anyone the UK is always refered to as Home and probably always will be. But i have to say, i have no doubt we will stay here and we will not be going back to the UK as we enjoy our life here to much. People always told us when we first arrived here give it a good 2 years to start to feel settled i think they where right in some ways.

First few days.. and I wanted to go back to India... and in the second week.. seems like *there is some hope*

As per my experience.. around 2 months should get you a feel of the place and you may start feeling OK

I've been here a year. I wouldn't say I'm totally settled in yet - but I am happy enough. I still need a Sydway book to get to places and I only really know the suburbs between me and the sea and me and Chatswood.

It's definitely all going in the right direction though!
