How long for a reccie?

We are looking to book our reccie for November this year, but wondering how long is neccesary? We can't really take more than three weeks off work, but we were looking into spending 3/4 days in Thailand (or somewhere) on the way there. Are we going to have time? We don't want to spend all our time in Oz wondering around suburbs etc - we want to see a little bit of the sights and relax too, as this will be our first holiday for ages. Will the prob about 2 weeks we will have left be enough?

We are planning to go to Adelaide, and with a 495 (or 475 as it is from Sept.), there's not really any point in looking around other places with a view to live there. Also we've decided that we can leave the trips to Sydney etc as holidays for when we live there (quite optimistic, as we haven't applied for visa yet :o ).

And what kind of things should we really be doing whilst we're there? Just looking round areas to live, and getting a feel for the place? Or anything more constructive than finding out what the nightlife is like? We don't have kids, so no point in looking into Schools.

Any help or advice much appriciated!

We did 2 weeks - knackering, but good. We got a feel for areas etc. We didn't look at schools etc but just got as much a feel for the place as we could. One good idea, is to visit places you like in rush hour, during the day and in the evening, you get such a different picture. I don't think that however long the reccie is, you will get a true picture. Living the dream is the only way and we will find out in 2 1/2 months...aggghh! Good luck. You'll love the place!

Hi from Yeppoon in QLD. we are from galashiels just south of Edinburgh. We came out for 6 weeks Dec until Feb 2005. We drove from Melbourne all the way to Yeppoon. What i would say is if you are looking at staying in OZ then 2-3 weeks is enough. U will soon see what the country has to offer and you get that feeling as sooon as you speak to people in the airport. So come enjoy and lap up the country its gr8. Hows ma mate John looking after the Hibeez? or are you jam tarts?

I agree with Gav, we did 6 weeks and travelled from Rockhampton, Queensland to adelaide to cover off quite a lot of the country. But I would said if you have an idea of roughly where you would like to be then 2-3weeks is enough.

Cheers guys - so 2 weeks should be long enough.

1234gav - Am afraid we are neither - my OH is a Celtic man, so I therefore have to be as well (well, Celtic woman). It was in our marriage vows
