Default How long does shipping take?

Hello

Now hubby just about to depart UK shores, trying to plan our life for next few months. How long does the shipping take to get to Oz? Will need to de-camp once house contents go, so just trying to work out when that might be roughly.

thanks

we start camping next friday in our house as the contents will have gone and been told 9-11 weeks (7 at sea, rest depends on when ship sails and AQIS). If you havent done insurance yet, i have done mine through Letton Percival, only 1.3% and great customer service.

Did you ship an exclusive container or go with a shared option? Generally a full container we say 7-9 weeks approx door to door (5-6 weeks on the water plus time to pack, load, ship and for customs clearance, transport and delivery in Oz) or if you went with a shared container it can be up to 12-16 weeks depending on how frequently your mover ships to your destination and whether you are first collected or last.

Hope that helps? Your moving company should be able to give you a much better idea of ETA.

Our contents are going in a shared container to Sydney and we've been quoted 12-16 weeks.

Our is leaving end May, arriving end June, before us!! We'd been quoted mid July, but obviously they've found a super fast container ship. Bit of a pain though, we won't be ready for it until at least end July, maybe August, as we've already booked 4 weeks' temp holiday accom while looking for a rental, so the "free" 8 weeks' storage we've been offered is actually essential, and might be a little tight.. This is to Perth, presumably times are different to other ports?

Ours was 9 weeks door to door, which seems to be slightly quicker than average. This was sole use container, shared containers can be slower.

Depends if the ship goes via Singapore (6+weeks) or Panama (13+weeks)
Try to soak up a week in UK with final goodbyes with family and friends

Slow the journey down in transit with break in Asia or Americas

Short Term apartment/rentals necessary expenditure

Once in long term rental camp for the last remaining weeks

Were you given an ETA, and could you track the container?

yes they said it would have been an extra week but I got an email to say it would arrive on the 11th and then it had to clear customs. I then got another email to say that it was cleared friday (18th). I was told which container it was but i didn't think to track it (you need a code or something to check, I am sure they will tell you that if you ask) Which company are you going with? I went with Pickfords I couldn't fault them so far (British side), hopefully when they deliver next week the Australian side will be just as good.

Hi Smithy, I think the best thing to do it get a removal company to come out and assess what you have to take. I did this then got a quote for so many cubic feet and then used that to check out other companies, I am sure they will know the best way to send it. I used pickfords for removals and letton percival (i think that is what they are called) for the insurance. You might need a part container or even send it by air but I am sure they can tell you.
Hope this helps

We moved to Australia in Jan of 2009 and our belongings arrived on May the 8th. It took a while to get through AQIS. I would say talk to your shipper and ask them to estimate. Our shipper was very accurate.

Wow Celia74, that was a long time. We had a 20ft container to ourselves so I bet that is why it got here and quick and through AQIS. Our shipper was accurate too, they filled the container with 12 empty boxes so that it was packed tight.

We also had the whole 20ft, the problem was a back up at AQIS. Took 3 weeks to get our things through.
